Regina Coach Gregg Golden to be inducted into the Macomb County Coaches Hall of Fame
On Thursday, April 25, 2019, Cross Country and Track and Field Coach, Gregg Golden, is being inducted into the Macomb County Coaches Hall of Fame at the Wyndham Garden in Sterling Heights. The Macomb Daily and the MCADA (Macomb County Athletic Directors Association) will honor 13 Macomb County Coaches, six Dave Jackson Distinguished Service Award Honorees and one Jack Francis Award of Merit Honoree for their accomplishments and contributions to Macomb County Athletics.
Over the 21+ years that Coach Gregg has been at Regina, he has won six Regional Championships and five Catholic League Championships in cross country along with six Regional Championships and one Catholic League Championship in track. He was inducted into the Catholic League Hall of Fame in 2012 and has won the Team Sportsmanship Award all but one year. He has also been named the Macomb County Coach of the Year multiple times.
Senior Maureen Diehl, who has been on both the cross country and track and field teams for four years stated, “There is no one more deserving than Coach Gregg. He has been such a positive influence in my life and also my three sisters who all have run for him. He really cares about each individual on the team and always makes sure that we are having fun while we are also improving.”
Coach Gregg has taught and mentored countless athletes throughout his years at Regina. He has helped develop and strengthen their stamina and reach their running goals. What sets him apart is that he makes it a priority to teach the important lesson of treating other teammates, players, parents, coaches and officials with respect.
Athletic Director Diane Laffey says, “He’s the best and most respected coach. Our students always thrive under his leadership and dedication. We are lucky to have him here!”
Gregg is a Physical Therapist and is married with two children. His daughter Erin graduated from Regina in 2018, and Ryan is a freshman at De La Salle.
