Four Seniors Receive Scholarships from the Grosse Pointe Sunrise Rotary Club
Four seniors were awarded scholarships from the Grosse Pointe Sunrise Rotary Club this morning. The awards ceremony was held via Zoom. Based on their grades, community service involvement and recommendation by a Regina counselor, Isabella Ensworth, Cayla Meerschaert, Olivia Ploucha, and Ava Vushaj each received a monetary scholarship.
Isabella Ensworth will attend Hope College and study Education and Dance; Cayla Meerschaert will attend Grand Valley State University and study Criminal Justice; Olivia Ploucha will attend Grand Valley State University and study Accounting; and Ava Vushaj will attend Michigan State University and study Business Management.
Each year, the Grosse Pointe Sunrise Rotary Club and its Foundation organize the Grosse Pointe run. All money that is raised by the Grosse Pointe Run are returned to the community through scholarships, grants and support of local charities. Last year was a banner year for the run, bringing in around $34,000. And while the club provided scholarships to students at local high school, there was plenty of money left to share with the community including the Girl Scouts, The Pope Francis Center, Vets Returning Home, The Knights of Columbus, and St. Charles Borromeo. Lastly, the club is raising funds for an ongoing effort - delivering personal protection equipment (PPE) to area hosptials and nursing homes.
