STEM: Career Outlook
Five-Year “Hot Job” Projection for Metro Detroit: A Regina parent makes a substantial investment in his or her daughter's future by choosing a tuition-based high school education. Many do so knowing that 100% of Regina graduates continue their learning at post-secondary institutions. Each year the DTMB, Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives, develops a list of “Hot Jobs” in various regional markets. The Metro Detroit document identifies occupations that will be in high demand in this region in five years based on projected long-term job growth, projected annual job openings and median wages. Of the 25 occupations listed for 2024, 21 require a bachelor's degree or higher. As you look at the list, notice that every occupation that is anticipated to be in a “growth” position requires proficiency, and often specialization, in math, science, engineering or technology. Through our STEM Initiative, Regina High School is taking additional responsibility for ensuring our students are prepared for college and career with an increased focus on the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in college and the workplace.
